Dave Hanson LIVE! EP coming March 31st
After 5 years of touring North America with his previous band The Dunwells, Dave Hanson’s ultimate goal as a solo artist was to return to the stage and perform his songs LIVE!. “I absolutely love the tour life and the excitement of playing for a different audience in a different city every night” Hanson states.
Following the release of his debut album Almost Horizontal to critical acclaim in June 2016, Hanson was able to achieve this goal – playing to venues across the UK in support of the album including festivals such as Cornbury and Caffe Nero “Artist of the Month” tour. This incessant touring schedule strengthened and tightened his band and led to the recording of his new EP – Dave Hanson LIVE!
“I’m a big fan of classic live albums such as The Who’s Live at Leeds, The Rolling Stones Get Yer Ya Ya’s Out etc.. and thing I loved about those records was how much fun the band seemed to be having onstage – you can really hear it in the music” claims Hanson.
The new EP showcases highlights of his debut studio album, with the laid back Gerry Rafferty vibe “Blind Faith”, bluesy harmonica driven “Joanna”, and funky reggae “Midday Sun” all making an appearance. But unlike the polished studio versions, LIVE! takes on a raw and electric feel.
The talented band provide a solid backing to Hanson’s lyrical and emotive guitar playing which echoes early Eric Clapton.
What stands out on the EP is the interplay between the musicians – especially evident on the only cover of the collection – Santana’s “Evil Ways” with it’s whirling hammond organ, dynamic drumming – you could easily imagine this being the highlight of a sunny afternoon Glastonbury Festival set.
Dave Hanson’s LIVE! EP will be released digitally via Six String Social Records on the 31st March 2017.
