Renowned rock photographer Ami Barwell invites Dave Hanson to play exhibition launch night
World renowned rock photographer Ami Barwell has invited Dave Hanson Band to perform a stripped down set at her exhibition launch in York on Friday October 3rd. Ami has worked with a who’s who of legendary artists from Lenny Kravitz, Foo Fighters to Queens of the Stoneage.

Ami has been shooting within the music industry for the past 15 years. Striking and atmospheric, honest & sexy; her photographs seek out and capture their subjects’ soul. Her photography encapsulates the true spirit of rock ‘n’ roll – passion, emotion, sex, sweat and rebellion. Ami’s ability to capture the raw essence of her subject on film has earned her a solid reputation as one of the World’s leading music photographers.
Having shot some of music’s biggest artists to Worldwide critical acclaim – The walls of the exhibition will be adorned with photographs of Rock ‘n’ Roll royalty. Iconic intimate portraits of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, the legendary Ian Brown, through to Iggy Pop, Queens Of The Stone Age, Lenny Kravitz, The White Stripes, Foo Fighters, Johnny Marr, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Motorhead’s Lemmy will slap you in the face as soon as you enter the building.
A catalyst for the camera shy, her photographs have a feel and depth that takes you into the shot, as if you were present at that very moment they were taken.
She has worked with all major record labels and her work has featured in Mojo, Rolling Stone, I-D, Elle Magazine, NME, GQ, Uncut, The Sunday Times, Kerrang!, Vogue, Metal Hammer, Total Guitar, Wonderland and Guitarist Magazine amongst other music and style journals and she regularly works on shoots with Classic Rock Magazine.
Working with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club as their official photographer for 5 years – she documented everything from relaxed personal shots, candid tour-bus antics, intimate backstage emotions and raw, high-energy live shots – in a way nobody else could. Along with producing album and single cover photography; Ami Barwell was also the director of photography for the ‘Weight Of The World’ music video.
Frequently commissioned to produce album covers, inlay artwork and single covers; some of her most iconic work includes cover images for Interpol, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Editors, Sandi Thom and The Cooper Temple Clause.
